Porcelain Veneers

Dental Veneer (Crown) Applications

Today, one of the widely used methods in dental treatments in Istanbul is dental veneer (crown) application. This treatment is a repair process designed to restore a tooth that has been damaged for various reasons, suffered significant material loss, and has deteriorated in terms of aesthetics and functionality. It involves covering the damaged tooth or teeth with tooth-shaped materials to completely encase them. This restorative process does not harm the tooth and aims to restore its original shape, size, and strength, both functionally and aesthetically.

At Atlantic Dental Clinic in Istanbul, we offer porcelain dental veneer treatments with special aesthetic designs. Patients needing porcelain dental veneers can contact our clinic in Istanbul to schedule an appointment.

What is Porcelain Dental Veneer?

Porcelain dental veneers create the new visible part of your teeth. Porcelain veneers are often preferred for their ability to protect the aesthetic features of the teeth. These veneers are widely used in dental treatments due to their various advantages. Porcelain dental veneers enhance both the appearance and functionality of the teeth, providing a beautiful smile and restoring the tooth’s functional structure.

Types of Porcelain Dental Veneers

Porcelain dental veneers are designed to cover the surface of damaged teeth, providing a natural tooth appearance. There are four main types:

  1. Metal-Supported Porcelain Dental Veneers

Metal-supported porcelain veneers use a metal material in the lower part to increase durability. Common metals include chrome-nickel, chrome-cobalt alloy, gold, and platinum. This metal provides the necessary support but may cause a dark line between the veneer and the natural tooth due to its lack of light transmittance. This type is generally used for back teeth to avoid disrupting the aesthetics of front teeth.

  1. Full Porcelain Dental Veneers (Emax Veneers)

Full porcelain dental veneers, also known as full ceramic or full porcelain veneers, are used for front teeth where aesthetic appearance is crucial. These veneers are made entirely of porcelain without metal support. Glass ceramic material is applied to enhance durability. Full porcelain veneers offer a natural tooth appearance and are preferred for their invisibility and resemblance to natural teeth.

  1. Zirconium-Supported Porcelain Dental Veneers

Zirconium is a natural metarial that is transparent, ivory-white, and resistant to high pressure, hardness, and corrosion. It is compatible with the human oral structure and provides a natural tooth appearance due to its light-transmitting properties. Zirconium-supported porcelain veneers are suitable for all teeth, offering a natural look for front teeth and a solid structure for back teeth. Unlike metal-supported veneers, zirconium does not create a gray-black line between the veneer and tooth.

  1. Porcelain Laminate Veneers

Porcelain laminate veneers, also known as leaf porcelain, are used to correct aesthetic issues on front teeth and improve the appearance of the dental structure. They are ideal for correcting shape and structure, diastema treatment (closing gaps), repairing broken or worn teeth, and enhancing color. These veneers are thin, semi-permeable, and bonded to the front surfaces of the teeth with minimal tooth thinning. They are highly preferred for their aesthetic benefits and minimal impact on the natural tooth structure.

Porcelain Dental Veneer Procedure in Istanbul

Before starting the porcelain tooth coating application in Istanbul, any advanced gum disease conditions requiring decay and root canal treatment are addressed. The process consists of four main stages:

  1. Preliminary Preparation

Natural teeth are reshaped by thinning, filing, or cutting to match the veneer’s thickness and ensure harmony.

  1. Impression Taking, Designing, and Producing Porcelain Veneers

The dentist measures the teeth and takes molds or 3D images to create an exact shape for the veneer. The molds or images are sent to the laboratory for design and production, which typically takes 1-2 weeks. A temporary veneer is placed to protect the prepared teeth.

  1. Try-On of Porcelain Veneer

The porcelain veneer is placed on the tooth for a preliminary trial to check its fit and color compatibility. Adjustments are made as needed. If issues arise that cannot be resolved during this trial, the veneer may be sent back to the laboratory for further modifications.

  1. Final Proofing and Bonding

Once the final veneer is received from the laboratory, it is tested in the mouth one last time. If satisfactory, it is cemented to the tooth using a special adhesive. The patient is then informed about oral care and prosthesis maintenance.

Indications for Porcelain Dental Veneers in Istanbul

Porcelain dental veneers can be applied for both health and aesthetic purposes, including:

– Restoring severely decayed teeth that cannot be treated with standard fillings.

– Repairing broken or damaged teeth.

– Improving the appearance of slightly crooked front teeth.

– Eliminating irreparable discoloration and color mismatch in front teeth.

– Enhancing the smile for individuals seeking a more attractive appearance.

Post-Procedure Care and Considerations

After the porcelain tooth veneer procedure, patients can resume normal activities without significant discomfort. Once the anesthesia wears off, eating and drinking can resume. Any hard or protruding parts will naturally adjust within a few days. Persistent issues will be addressed by the dentist. Pain or discomfort can be managed with prescribed painkillers. Patients should:

– Avoid biting hard objects like nails or pens.

– Steer clear of extremely hot or cold foods and drinks.

– Avoid foods that may damage or stain the veneer and brush teeth promptly after consuming such items.

– Refrain from biting excessively hard foods.

– Use a retainer dental appliance if teeth grinding or clenching occurs at night.
